The Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit drivers are Microsoft-signed drivers.

INSTALLATION - Operating System Specific Notes
----------------------------------------------
If operating a Windows 7 system with an existing "Ether Link Device Manager",
please check the version by clicking the "?" icon. If the version is earlier
than 5.0.0, please refer to the additional notes at the end of this file,
or contact LAVA support. This indicates that an attempt may have been made
to install the XP Driver on a Windows 7 system, which requires manual
intervention to clean up the registry. This process is described at the end
of this readme file in "Additional Notes".

If using a Windows 7 32-bit system, the Microsoft Update Patch KB2685811 must
be present in order to successfully activate a port. Any Activation on a
Windows 7 32-bit system, without KB2685811 installed, will result in a failed
port activation and will be reported in the Device Manager. The full title
for the update is "Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 update for
Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2"
and can be obtained through the Microsoft website.

If using a Windows 7 64-bit system, Server 2008 64-bit, or Server 2008 R2, a
manual install of KB2685811 should not be required. If KB2685811 is not present
present on the system prior to the first port activation then the system will be
updated in conjunction with the activation of the first port. After this first
port activation, and once the system has been updated with KB2685811, the system
will require a reboot in order to apply the update. Prior to a reboot the Lava
Manager should report no errors while the Device Manager will indicate the newly
activated ports will require a reboot. As long as the KB2685811 update hasn't
been removed all future activations should proceed without any issue.

If using a Server 2008 32-bit system, the Microsoft Update Patch KB2761494 must
be present in order to successfully activate a port. Any Activation on a
Server 2008 32-bit system, without KB2761494 installed, will result in a failed
port activation and will be reported in the Device Manager. The full title
for the update is "Cumulative Windows Driver Framework version
1.11 update for Windows Vista and Server 2008" and can be obtained through the
Microsoft website.

NOTE: The KB2685811 update does not apply to Windows 2008 32-bit system, even
though the title suggests that it does.

Although the Windows 7 32-bit and Windows 8 32-bit drivers are signed, the
Driver tab on the Properties Page, of the Device Manager, currently reports
"Not digitally signed". However, the drivers are fully functional as indicated
by the Device Status box under the General tab, which states "The device is
working properly". The Windows 7 64-bit and Server 2008 R2 install reports the
digital signature status correctly.

The beta release of the Windows 7 32-bit Driver prior to 5.0.6 was installed
manually via a self extracting compressed image. Please delete any old installations
and related desk top short cuts using Windows Explorer. If you are not clear
on how to manually remove the previous Beta files, please contact support.

INSTALLATION - General
----------------------
Deactivate any ports on the PC which were activated prior to this installation.
Port deactivation is done by using the existing Ether-Serial Link Manager,
"right-clicking" on each port and selecting "Deactivate" from the available context
menu. Port deactivation will require Administrator access to the device.

Alternatively Port deactivation can be performed through the Windows Device Manager
by uninstalling the ports.

If running a version of the Manager which is 5.0.6 or newer, the standard
Windows application un-install menu is used for removing the previous version.
The installer based distributions cannot remove the earlier releases, which
were manually installed.

As of release 5.0.6, the Beta distribution package uses the standard
Windows installer. Run the supplied "exe" and follow the instructions.

The Manager MUST BE RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR if ports are to be activated or
deactivated. Right click on the Manager short cut and select "Run as
Administrator". If not run as Administrator, the application can be used to
view status of each port, but cannot activate or deactivate ports.

Additional Notes:
-----------------
1) Cleaning Windows 7 due to earlier XP driver Install:

   a. Open "Regedit" in Windows.

   b. Expand and open to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Enum/Root/

   c. Under this you may see EBD1407. Delete that entry. You may need to change
the permissions to allow Full Control to Everyone.

   d. Expand and open to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/

   e. Under this you may see LSerial. Delete that entry. You may need to change
the permissions to allow Full Control to Everyone.

   f. Reboot 2 times (this is due to the keys not being updated right away
      in Windows 7).

   g. You can now install and activate with the proper Windows 7 Manager/Driver.
