for Microsoft Windows. The supported systems are Windows 7, Server 2008,
Server 2008R2, Windows 2000 32-bit, and Windows XP 32-bit.

The package supports Ether-Serial Link 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 port units.
The ESL 5 port Embedded product is also supported.
The DataTap-IP is also supported.

The Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit drivers are Microsoft-signed drivers.

Installations which use the Windows 7 driver report version 5.7.0.0 in the
Device Manager. This includes Server 2008 and Server 2008R2.

Installations which use the Windows XP 32-bit driver report version 4.10.0.0
in the Device Manager. This includes Windows 2000 32-bit.

The Manager reports itself as version 5.8.0 in the Manager Help information.

The installation does not support Windows Vista, Windows 2000 64-bit,
Windows 2003, or Windows XP 64-bit systems.

INSTALLATION
------------
If operating a Windows 7 system with an existing "Ether Link Device Manager",
please check the version by clicking the "?" icon. If the version is earlier
than 5.0.0, please refer to the additional notes at the end of this file,
or contact LAVA support. This indicates that an attempt may have been made
to install the XP Driver on a Windows 7 system, which requires manual
intervention to clean up the registry. This process is described at the end
of this readme file in "Additional Notes".

Deactivate any ports on the PC which were activated prior to this installation.
Port deactivation is done using the existing Ether-Serial Link Manager, using
the "right click" option of each port titled "Deactivate". Port deactivation
will require Administrator rights.

Port deactivation can optionally be performed through the Windows Device Manager.

The beta release of the Windows 7 32-bit Driver prior to 5.0.6 was installed
manually via a self extracting compressed image. Please delete old installations
and related desk top short cuts using Windows Explorer. If you are not clear
on how to manually remove the previous Beta files, please contact support.

If running a version of the Manager which is 5.0.6 or newer, the standard
Windows application un-install menu is used for removing the previous version.
The installer based distributions cannot remove the earlier releases, which
were manually installed.

As of release 5.0.6, the Beta distribution package uses the standard
Windows installer. Run the supplied "exe" and follow the instructions.

The Manager MUST BE RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR if ports are to be activated or
deactivated. Right click on the Manager short cut and select "Run as
Administrator". If not run as Administrator, operations of the application
used to view status of each port operate normally.

Although the Windows 7 32-bit drivers are signed, the Device Manager Driver
tab currently reports "Not digitally signed". The drivers are fully functional
as indicated by the Device Status box under the General tab, which states
"The device is working properly". The Windows 7 64-bit and Server 2008 R2
install does report the digital signature status correctly.

Additional Notes:
-----------------
1) Cleaning Windows 7 due to earlier XP driver Install:

   a. Open "Regedit" in Windows.

   b. Expand to open to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Enum/Root/

   c. Under this you may see EBD1407. Delete that. You may need to change the
permissions to allow Full Control to Everyone.

   d. Expand to open to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/

   e. Under this you may see LSerial. Delete that. You may need to change
the permissions to allow Full Control to Everyone.

   f. Reboot 2-3 times (this is due to the keys not being updated right away
      in Windows 7.

   g. You can now install and activate with the proper Windows 7 Manager/Driver.
