NOTES ON SETTING THE PARALLEL-PCI INPUT/OUTPUT RANGE QUESTION: I am trying to change the Input/Output range of my LAVA PCI Port card in Device Manager in my Windows 95/98 system and it keeps saying that this resource cannot be modified. At the same time, the "Use Automatic Settings" feature is unchecked! I need to change the I/O range for my non-printer device. What can I do? ANSWER: Some systems do not allow changing the resources of a PCI card from within Windows. However, in Safe Mode the system does accept setting changes on many systems. The following procedure shows how to do this. 1) Go to Start|Shutdown, choose Restart the computer, and Click OK. 2) As the system is booting up hold down the CTRL key or tap the F8 key. This will bring the system to the Windows Startup Menu. 3) Choose Safe Mode and hit Enter. 4) Once you are in Safe Mode, right click on My Computer then left click Properties and enter the Device Manager. 5) Double click the LAVA PCI in Ports COM and LPT and enter Resources. Uncheck Use Automatic Settings and then double-click on the words Input Output Range. 6) Change the port to the address you need for the device you are attaching to the port.
